General Evaluator: Dan Evaluator #1: Dave W. Timer: Paula Joke Master: Laura Guests: Shirley Toastmaster member Roger also joined us! | We had a fantastic meeting of celebration and recognition of our Toastmasters members. First, the club inducted Laura as our newest member of Bemidji Area Toastmasters. After that, we also did a special pledge and renewal for all of our renewing club members. Dave W. was recognized for his achievement of completing his Competent Communicator (CC) manual with an official certificate from Toastmasters International. Dave W. presented Samantha N. with a gift of a beautiful houseplant and vase from the club as a thank you for her leadership as president this past year. Introductions were led by Samantha using the meeting's theme. Participants were asked to describe their favorite kind of quiet when they introduced themselves to the group. Merilee and Shirley set the Word of the Day as "happy" which set a joyful tone. Kim S. did a fantastic speech about the upcoming changes for Toastmasters curriculum. For the second speaker spot, we took 1-2 minutes for each member to provide a quick update on which manual they are working in and the topic they plan to speak about for their next speech. A creative round of Table Topics was led by John S. that showcased the power of gestures and body language. It's quite amazing what can be communicated in a simple movement or gesture--and what that gesture could mean in other cultures. As General Evaluator, Dan led the constructive feedback portion of the meeting by introducing Kim's evaluator, Dave W., called on reports from the Timer and WAG Master, and provided good feedback overall to the club. Our meeting concluded with a joke from our newest member, Laura. |
