The Laura Lobo, President of the Bemidji Area Toastmasters inducted our newest member, Abby Randall, on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Welcome Abby!
Did you know that there are fantastic videos of Toastmasters contest and tips on YouTube? Just go to https://www.youtube.com/toastmasters. Below is just one example on the Toastmasters channel. Online, you can watch video about anything from quilting to fly fishing. In Fargo and Grand Forks, you can go and see live speakers doing TEDx talks. Right here in Bemidji, you can go to Pecha Kucha Night and see speakers that talk on every subject imaginable.
Through all of this, an observer can quickly discover that lots of people have a story to tell, but not everyone is an effective story teller. Then there are those who lead a team in their profession. There it's easy to spot the difference between people who merely hold a managers position, and other people that are true Leaders. Anyone in any profession that rises to a leadership position, will soon find themselves having to communicate effectively with their group. With particular emphasis on public speaking, Toastmasters allows for a way to learn or improve these leadership and speaking skills. (theme statement) How Does It Work Through a structured program that takes you from simply talking about yourself for 3 minutes all the way through 15–20 minute speech. What Is It Exactly It’s kind of like a club, it’s kind of like a class. Mainly it’s a peer group or a mastermind group of like minded individuals that want to try new things, have fun, and improve their public speaking and leadership skills. Dan is a Toastmaster of great skill, and many years experience. So welcome to the Leadership Team Dan, and great thanks for offering up your services. New TM Meeting Schedule Many of you responded to the survey that went out a couple of weeks ago. Thank you for that. With that information in hand, a decision was reached that we will, beginning in the month of April start doing 2 meetings a month on Tuesday at 12:15 to 1:15, and 2 meetings a month on Wed. at 5:30 to 6:30. We hope that this will help members more easily attend. Notice too, that the start time was moved up 15 minutes at the noon meeting to accommodate those with AM commitments right up until the noon hour. The schedule will look like this. Tuesday 12:15 meetings, the first and the third Tuesday of the month, and location will be Lueken's North in Bemidji. Wednesday 5:30 meetings, Wed. of the following week., location will be Northwest Technical College. If that seems at all confusing, it will make sense once you see it on a paper calendar. April Meeting Schedule. Month of April, Tues. 12:15 to 1:15PM meetings, 7th and 21st. Month of April, Wed. 5:30 to 6:30PM meetings, 15th and 29th. Notice too that in March, just by the way the calendar falls, there is an open week at the end of the month. Which brings us to point number 2. No Meeting Next Wed. April 1. Again, one week off and then we're right back at it. There are all kinds of roles open for the meeting of April 7, which will be the first of the Tuesday Noon meetings at Luekens. Sign up early, sign up often! Bemidji Area Toastmasters Membership Drive: Coinciding with the Toastmasters International "Beat the Clock" membership building contest, our club will hold our own version. During the month of April, members are encouraged to share Toastmasters pamphlets and flyers with their friends, co-workers, and family members and then invite them to come and visit a meeting for themselves. We have great tools and we will provide great training to help you with this. And the best part will be prizes and incentives for the member that brings in the most visitors during the month of April. That's the member news from last Wed. Leadership Meeting. I look forward to working with all of you in this final quarter of our Toastmaster year. Dave Wold President, Bemidji Area Toastmasters International Speech Contest
